Rules & Conditions
General Information
The Bowls Ladder started on 1st of November with players names drawn out at random to determine the starting positions, first out started at the top of the ladder and so on.The Ladder ends on 30th May 2023 – the top 4 players will then play off for the title and prizes.
New players may join the ladder at any time, entering at the bottom of the ladder.
Challenges
Any player can challenge any player who is up to 5 places above them, so players 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 could challenge player 1 for the top spot.
If the challenger wins, they take the place on the ladder of their opponent, the loser drops one place to be below the challenger. All respective players also drop 1 position accordingly.
If the challenger loses, they drop one place on the ladder, he/she swaps with the person immediately below them.
You can only play a player once in succession. (You can’t immediately ask for a re-match).
No player can refuse a challenge without a valid reason. If there is no valid reason to refuse a challenge, the player will forfeit the match.
Once a player is contacted and challenged, the game must be arranged within 14 days. Should the person you challenge already have a game arranged then the clock only starts ticking on this deadline once they have played that game.
Only one challenge match per 14 days is required. The match must then occur within the 14 days, or the challenger wins by forfeit. A challenger is permitted to challenge and play matches against different players in the same 14 days if they choose.
Note – If a player issues a challenge and then is challenged from below before the first match takes place, the second challenge is suspended until the first match is resolved as the second challenge may be rendered ineligible.
For example, if player #7 has challenged #3, but then receives a challenge from player #11. If #7 beats #3, the challenge from #11 is no longer valid, as they are not eligible to challenge position #3. However, if #7 loses to #3, the challenge from #11 becomes valid, and should be played within 14 days.
Anyone who doesn’t play a game in a calendar month drops down FIVE positions at the end of that month. If you are not challenged in the month, challenge someone.
Matches
All matches shall follow the Official Rules of Lawn Bowls.
A coin toss will determine who has the Jack.
A match will consist of one game of 10 ends, no handicaps.
Dead ends will be replayed.
Players are responsible for arranging matches, either in person, phone, text, or email.
The challenger should inform the Bowls Coordinator of the match details and the winner should advise the result.
Markers are not required, but if available you are welcome to use one if organised by yourself.
2 jacks can be used, one at each end. The winner of the end can place the jack where they like, before walking to the head and also placing the mat. This will save following the jack to set it on the line each end. Players can use some discretion should they not know who wins the end prior to walking to the head.

The Bowls Ladder will be updated at least once each week (usually Mondays) and published in our weekly newsletter, on the website, and displayed in the club.

FAQs
When are the games played?
Games are not at set scheduled times, games are to be organised by the players involved.
Games can be played at any time there is green space available.
How long is each game?
So far, each game has taken less than 1 hour, but depending on your speed of play, allow up to 90 minutes.
What if I'm going away on holidays?
Being away is a valid reason to not be able to play. You will be required to postpone your challenged game for when you return. If you are away for a complete calendar month, the five placings penalty still applies.
Players cannot hold their position uncontested for a whole calendar month.
I'm number 1, who can I challenge?
As number 1, you will 100% be challenged by 2-6 at the first opportunity, so you will not need to actually challenge anyone, but you will be required to complete the challenge when challenged.
As long as you accept all challenges and complete them within 14 days, and have played at least 1 game in the calendar month, be it as the challenger or challenged, you are compliant and will maintain your position.
Can I lose positions without losing games?
Yes, you can, if players around you are on the move.
I play socially, am I eligible?
We have 3 membership levels at Windsor Bowling & Sports Club, if you are either type of bowling member you are eligible to join and play.
Dual members who are also members of other clubs are eligible.
What is the dress code?
As games are played when you and the opponent organsie them, these games are Mufti dress code.
Can I still join?
Late registration is available and will be available until further notice. Head into the club and pay the registration fee of $10 to join.
New entries will be added to the bottom of the ladder.
But don't worry, there's plenty of time to work your way up to challenge for the prizes.
How can I report my match results?
We've created a quick form above for players to submit results.
You can either use this form above, email us, or via SMS/Call to Paul on 0490 012 592.
Do we need a marker?
Markers are not required, you can both work together and use a bit of fair sportsmanship to manage the game between the 2 players.
Ready be part of the Windsor Bowls team?
Windsor Bowling & Sports clubs membership is open to men & women of all ages. You can sign up as a full or social member. There are many club members who are happy to teach and coach beginners the technique of Lawn Bowls.
